I work in IT at a large manufacturing company. We are relatively new to the Microsoft Sharepoint world, but have jumped in with both feet.
Having de facto standard practices regarding the testing and promotion of applications which we had developed over many years of custom development, one high priority was to identify a tool that we would use for deploying Sharepoint/MOSS applications.
Through some evaluation process we ended up with DocAve by AvePoint (http://www.avepoint.com).
It seems to be pretty robust with one glaring exception which we learned only recently. By design, their product does not retain webpart connections. WHAT!?!?
Let the buyer beware.
On our first deploy of an application using such connections, we noticed that the connections had been broken. After numerous tests, we determined that this was true including those cases where both webparts are out-of-the-box MOSS. After a bit of hemming and hawing, the vendor finally came back with the verdict “not supported – – by design”.
